The Villanova University Theatre Department offers both a
Master of Arts degree and a Graduate Certificate in Practical Theatre.
Students enrolled in the theatre program undergo a course of study that
combines both scholarly and practical approaches to theatre. Guided by
award-winning faculty and staff who are actively involved in the
region's professional theatre industry, students gain knowledge and
experience through hands-on production work and in-depth academic study
in the areas of dramaturgy, script analysis, dramatic literature,
playwriting, acting, and directing. The department produces a four-show
season of plays and students enrolled in the M.A. and Graduate
Certification programs participate in the theatre season in the areas of
acting, stage management, public relations, scenic and costume
construction, and technical theatre support. To pursue the M.A. degree
in theatre or the Graduate Certificate in Practical Theatre, you must
have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a
satisfactory academic record. Students holding degrees in the humanities
are qualified for admission to the program. Those holding degrees in
other fields may be accepted after having satisfied the graduate
committee that they have a particular aptitude or sufficient experience
for graduate study in the field of theatre. GRE scores are required for
all applicants.
